When Hewitt&Carr were approached to re-imagine the Alton Pigeon Fancier’s home into a new office development, we were not quite sure what the client was expecting. It wasn’t until our first visit that we realised just how much potential the building had.
The Old Chapel had long since been a place of religious worship and had for many years been the home to another kind of worship. We always find it interesting when a client approaches us with a vision and we are always more than happy to help it reach fruition.
We embarked on an interesting conversion and refurbishment job, unveiling additional volume which had, for many years, been hidden behind a false ceiling. What also became apparent was that the existing structure was sound and capable of so much more. We proposed the extension of the existing balcony down the centre of the building for use as the board room allowing us to channel light down into the office spaces below. We created a new glazed vestibule with toilet facilities and storage along with a much needed staff kitchenette within the main office space. The project has created an attractive office facility in an otherwise very rural location and is now home to two businesses with room for more.
